Public Consultation on Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR)

23.03.2011

The Norwegian Consumer Ombudsman has submitted comments to the European Commission's consultation paper on the use of Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) as a means to resolve disputes related to commercial transactions and practices in the European Union.

Consumers affected by an illegal practice of a trader may face many challenges when they want to pursue their case. Lack of effective dispute resolution mechanisms, particularly for small value claims, is a problem. Providing consumers access to effective dispute resolution mechanisms may promote consumer confidence in the market.

The CO therefore welcomes this move by the European Commission to look into measures to reduce the current shortcomings in relation to ADR in the community area.
